The Friends of Hopwood Park formed in 2011, a small group of local parents who were keen to see much needed improvements to the neglected "Hopwood Rec" to create a safe recreational space for the local children and all the community.

The Group has grown in size and has been successful in initiating and driving forward the renovation of this under-utilised, neglected green space. It is now a popular park, enjoyed by the local and wider community with many facilities including a wildflower meadow, pond (SUDS), mini-orchard, two kick pitches with basketball nets; play equipment for younger and older children with a zip wire, climbing frame and basket swing, slides and swings and a refreshment cabin with picnic seating area.

Regular community events are organised by The Friends Group which raise funds to be re-invested into the Park. The Group have also been successful in receiving numerous grants and sponsorships to provide a variety of activities and complete many projects to improve the Park.

In recent years, The Group raised funds to renovate the old bus shelter which stands at the entrance to the Park, from this they have created the popular and successful community café  - 'The Tree House Café at Hopwood Park' which opened its doors in September 2018.

The Friends Group achieved level 5 for two consecutive years (2015/16) in the RHS North West In Bloom, It's Your Neighbourhood Competition.  In 2017 and 2018, Hopwood Park received a Silver Gilt Award at the RHS North West Awards in Southport and also received Green Flag status in the summer of 2017 and maintained this award for 2018/19.
